The University of Hargeisa is a four-year University. It operates on a semester system. The academic year consists of two 20-week semester separated by a 2-week winter break, and a 10 weak summer break. The first semester begins 15 September and ends 31 January. The second semester begins 1 March and ends 15 July.

Students are encouraged to take online classes when a desired subject is not offered on campus. Many UH Master's programs allow credit transfers from accredited online universities. You can transfer your masters in secondary education courses from other schools.
